The Namib Desert is the oldest desert in the world, its character lies in its vast open spaces with breath-taking scenery. It combines oceans, dunes, mountains and desert all in one. A number of unusual species of plants and animals are found in this desert, many of which are endemic and all of these species have developed techniques to survive in the Namib environment. The Welwitschia mirabilis can be found here, a marvellous plant that can be up to 1500 years old.
